MAC DVD DRIVE TO SSD INSTALL
I did a clean install on the SSD because I wanted to make sure everything was fresh plus to clean the crap out. I went with a larger SSD drive so I could put all my programs and "working" files on the SDD then use my 1TB drive for longer term storage, music and movies. I work a lot in Lighrtroom, photoshop, and Final Cut X. My super drive didn't work anymore and I wanted to get a least 2 more years of good use on my iMac. In January I just replaced my 2009 iMac i5's super drive with an SSD. You might find this article about creating a fusion drive on an older iMac to be interesting. Why not just call Other World Computing and ask them? Do you happen to know the maximum capacity HD and or brand I can use to replace my existing? I've heard so many things about it having to me the same brand and not exceeding a certain size. In any case I suggest to make a Mavericks USB install disk: You can either install from a time machine backup or do a clean new install. The 240GB SSD is more than sufficient to install the operating system, programs, general data and the aperture Library. Works perfect and I get to keep my 1TB spinning HDD for data like music and pictures (~300GB) I used an OWC data doubler - replacing the DVD with a 240GB OWC 3G SSD.

I have an early 2009 Mac Pro and I have now installed four SSDs in the drive bays. Your recommendation for a SSD, capacity & brand.Īll hints and advice on replacing the HD & installing SSD. I do have vaults for backup but have my entire library ( 500+GB) on my HD.Ĭan I have same apps loaded on both HD & SSD?Ĭan I move my apps selectively to the SSD from HD or will they need to be reinastalled? and if so is it used only to run the app or do I need to also have room for my primary Aperture Library.
MAC DVD DRIVE TO SSD UPGRADE
If I use the SSD as the startup drive can I use this ability to replace the Recovery Partition if I use Super Duper to clone my existing HD? Also, when I upgrade to Mavericks do I need to install Snow Leopard first or is Mavericks a new stand alone OS and can I also have Mavericks on the HD?Ĭan I use the SSD to run apps like Aperture, CS6 etc etc. Although I understand that the SSD is very fast I will admit I'm not totally understanding of all it's abilities when used as a second drive. I can live with an external drive for cd/dvd use.

I'm replacing the HD on my 27" 2009 iMac and I'm thinking this would be a good opportunity to hopefully give it a little more kick in installing a SSD in place of the optical drive.
MAC DVD DRIVE TO SSD SOFTWARE
I tried to address this topic on my last thread regarding cloning software but it may be lost in the many replies I received which I do appreciate a lot.
